Boy, was I bummed when I found out that Verizon had held a launch event for Motorola’s new Droid phone and I didn’t get an invite. Lucky for me and other members of New York City’s social-media scene (personally, I like to think of us as digital visionaries), Cake Group had us covered, inviting us to a cocktail reception at Morimoto in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District where we could see firsthand the new Cliq and Droid phones.
Not only was there a “gadget room” for us to check both out (I have to say that yes, the Droid is much faster on Verizon’s 3G network than the Apple iPhone 3G is on AT&T’s and yes, the Web browsing experience is noticeably better), but we got to sample dishes from Morimoto’s kitchen (catching glimpses of Mashahuru Morimoto himself as they came out), have drinks, and listen to music spun by two DJs hired for the event. Best of all? Everybody who attended is getting a Cliq or Droid courtesy of Motorola?
So, who did I see at this party? Well, there was blogger Sarah Merion, Pepsi We Inspire’s Nichelle Stephens, Klickable.tv’s Jon Lazar, HS Dominion’s Damien Basile, event planner Christina Coster, Cake Group’s Michelle Shildkret and Rosie Siman, MediaPost’s Kelly Samardak, music industry professional David Factor, MoMA’s Julia Kaganskiy, Revision3 host Walt Ribeiro, Mashable’s Sharon Feder and Adam Hirsch, and Random Night Out’s Nick McGlynn. If I missed you, you can always let me know here and I’ll update this post.
